5 Tips to Feel Confident - Immediately!

A high level of self-confidence is the difference between feeling unstoppable and hiding from the world under a blanket. I used to be very unconfident, beating myself up and walking around with tons of negative talk in my head. I strive daily to take actions that prevent me from going to those places again. Here are a five easy things that you can do to start building your self-confidence and take on the world with an unstoppable attitude!

1. Get Up, Get Dressed, Get Out!

When you find your confidence is at a low, force yourself to get out of bed or off the couch and get dressed in something that you love. Choose that special color or outfit that makes you feel spunky, happy, and energized. Fix your hair and put on a little makeup to top it off!  Make a date with a girlfriend for coffee, lunch, shopping, or if you are feeling really adventurous . . . all three! I find that when I am at a low point if I get out of my house, out into the sunshine, and surround myself with people that love me, I feel much more confident!

2. Start with Gratitude

Start the day with a grateful heart by starting a gratitude journal. Make it your goal to write down at least five things each day that you are grateful for. Today it might be that you are grateful for the pillow you have to lay your head on and the job that supports you and your family. When we lead with gratitude we fill ourselves up!

3. Encourage Others

Do you desire to feel better about yourself and believe that you can accomplish your goals? Instead of looking at yourself and putting a magnifying glass up against all of your weaknesses, reach out to five people today and tell them how proud you are of them. Let them know that you see what they are doing in their life and that they inspire you. It might feel strange at first, especially if you aren’t used to opening your heart to people, but I promise you, once you create a habit of encouraging others and recognizing their strengths, you will begin to do the same for yourself.

4. One Percent Change

Ever heard the saying “you eat an elephant one bite at a time”? It is so true! If your confidence level is depleted you may be focused on all of these things that you want to change but feel overwhelmed with where to start. It is true that self-confident people are on a journey of self-discovery. But they're curious and embrace new challenges because they have realistic expectations and don't try to do it all at once. Decide today that you will make a one percent change instead of trying to make all the changes at one time. Maybe start by adding in a devotional time to your day or start reading a self development book. Work on that one thing until you feel like you have created a new habit and then the next week, add in another one percent change. Before you know it, you will be walking with your head held high and feeling empowered!

5. Get Moving

A workout or brisk 30 minute walk can help you when you need an emotional lift, or need to release anxiety and elevate your mood. Physical activity stimulates various brain chemicals that can leave us feeling happier and more relaxed. Exercise also makes us feel better about our appearance and ourselves when we do it regularly, which can boost our confidence and improve our overall self-esteem. So get out there and get moving!
